Property developers are to thank for raising Birmingham's profile, said leader of Birmingham City Council Mike Whitby at MIPIM today.

Speaking on the Birmingham stand, Whitby boasted that the level of investment in the city had now reached £17bn.

This included projects such as the £193m of funding raised for the city's new library and £400m of government funding to redevelop New Street station, which has meant, said Whitby, that Birmingham had reached a 'formidable moment of resurgence'.

Whitby added that the masterplan for Birmingham city centre - the Big City Plan - would propel Birmingham into the top 25 cities in the world. He also claimed that within the next four months 'powerful investors and companies' would be annoucing that they were coming to the city.
