Modus has received planning permission for the first phase of the £90 million Waterside development in Trowbridge.

The developer is planning a scheme that will include 240 apartments, a 60-bed hotel, a 40,000 sq ft office, a new library, a 340 space car park and other family leisure facilities.

It follows the news that Vue Cinemas has agreed to take 30,000 sq ft of space creating an 8 screen multiplex cinema at the scheme with more than 1,200 seats. Bowlplex will also be taking more than 24,000 sq ft of space to create a 20 lane bowling and entertainment centre.

Long time coming

Councillor Bill Parks, West Wiltshire District Council’s deputy portfolio holder for the economy, said: ‘This exciting development has been a long time in coming. It leads the whole regeneration project for Trowbridge. It will give us facilities appropriate to a county town, and the benefits will be seen across the district as a whole. It represents the culmination of an immense amount of consultation and work amongst the partners.’

modus will start work in September with the new library opening during 2009.
