Asda has got the go-ahead to develop a regional HQ for Barclays in Poole in Dorset.

Asda, with development partner Marsh Baxter, can now go on site at West Quay Road in Poole to develop the two buildings for Barclays, comprising over 100,000 sq ft of space.

Barclays intends to employ approximately 850 staff in the development.

Solution

Jonathan Refoy, head of property communications for Asda, said: ‘The new offices represent a significant investment into the local and regional economy; enhancing Poole and the south coast of England’s reputation as one of the UK’s premier commercial office locations.’

Jim Bright, strategic director at the Borough of Poole Council, said: ‘From the day that Barclays told us that Barclays House no longer met its needs, the Council has worked with Barclays and Asda to find a solution. The quality of this development will help re-define the town’s commercial market.’

Councillor Ron Parker said: ‘It has been exciting to see the transformation of the old Dalgety Mills site. Once this land provided employment for less than 100 people, by the time this development is complete there will be more than 1,000 jobs together with more than 160 new homes and a new superstore.’

The site, which is owned by Asda, is scheduled for completion in 2010.
