The £1bn redevelopment of Watford Health Campus is a step nearer after plans were submitted to the local council yesterday.

The application submitted to Watford Borough Council outlines the stakeholders’ plans to build a new hospital and football stadium as well as creating office and residential space on the 65 acre site.

The application has taken two years to complete and involved the Watford Health Campus Stakeholders consulting with the public to determine the best use of the land.

Dorothy Thornhill, mayor of Watford, said the application would be scrutinised by the planning committee but she thought that the Health Campus would provide a ‘fantastic boost’ to the town.

It is being promoted by nine stakeholders: the East of England Development Agency, East of England Strategic Health Authority, Hertfordshire County Council, Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Trust, Hertfordshire Prosperity, Watford Borough Council, Watford Football Club, West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, and West Hertfordshire Primary Care Trust.
