Qatar needs a real estate regulatory authority if it is to welcome international firms in the industry, according to an official at a global property company.

Fine & Country International Realty managing director Cecilia Reinaldo said a property watchdog, similar to the Real Estate Regulatory Authority in Dubai, was required to keep 'things in control'.

'It (the body) will control indexes, ensure compliance, monitor regulations, so things do not go out of control, as they did in Dubai. That leaves a lot of people to suffer,' said Reinaldo
