Local authorities should stop buying commercial property and start providing loans to SME housebuilders, according to LendInvest’s founder Ian Thomas.
Councils have invested billions of pounds in commercial property, taking advantage of access to cheap capital through the Public Works Loan Board (PWLB), but should instead use the money to fund housebuilding.
