The Royal College of General Practitioners has begun its search for a new freehold headquarters of up to 100,000 sq ft (9,290 sq m) in London’s West End.

It is to leave its base at 14-15 St Prince’s Gate on Kensington Road, SW7, which it moved into in 1905.

The college has appointed West End firms Martin Levy Commercial and Otway Norwood to advise it on the move and search for a new headquarters.

King’s Cross is understood to be the preferred location, but the college is also considering sites around Paddington, Marylebone, Euston, Bloomsbury and Waterloo.

The college is looking at a range of options such as the outright purchase of a building, a joint venture or buying and developing a site.

It is understood that it is poised to sell the St Prince’s Gate site for more than £30m.

The site, which has a listed frontage, is deemed ripe for luxury residential redevelopment. The rear overlooks Ennismore Gardens, one of the biggest private gardens in London.
