An extreme sports complex, a business park and two hotels are being planned in a bid to secure the future of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Yesterday South Northamptonshire Council adopted the Joint Silverstone Circuit Development Brief detailing the future of the race track.

The brief’s ‘Vision for the Circuit’ sets out plans for development at and around the circuit over the next ten years.

Circuit facilities for the 21st century

‘With the development brief in place we can now complete the preparation of a planning application to bring the circuit facilities into the 21st Century and transform Silverstone into a world leading centre for business, leisure and technology,’ said Richard Phillips, managing director of Silverstone Circuits Limited.

‘This will ensure the UK remains at the forefront of the motor sport industry and maintain its position as a major regional and national employer.’

Housing and education

Other facilities planned at Silverstone include a pit and paddock complex, a university campus, a ‘Welcome’ centre and new homes nearby.

A planning application for the pit and paddock facility is currently being finalised and is expected to be submitted in Spring this year.
