St Modwen’s plans for the mixed-use redevelopment of the former Royal Doulton site near Stoke-on-Trent go before the city council next week.

The regeneration developer plans to turn the porcelain manufacturer’s main building, atn Burslem to the north of Stoke, and a surrounding courtyard into a 70,000 sq ft business enterprise centre.

It is hoped the centre will house 50 small to medium businesses.

St Modwen will restore the original building while developing three-storey high buildings in the main courtyard at its front.

Housing regeneration

The rest of the 11.5 acre site will be developed into around 140 family homes as a part of the regeneration of Burslem, which is north of Stoke.

‘Subject to receiving planning approval, demolition work will start in the near future,’ said Mike Herbert, regional director at St Modwen. ‘It is anticipated that the site will be cleared and ready for development by the end of the year with the development of the Enterprise Centre and new homes starting in early 2009.’

The scheme follows a public consultation in autumn last year.
