Donald Trump’s plans for a £1bn golf resort in Aberdeenshire have been giving planning consent by the Scottish government.

Trump can now develop the 1,400 acre beachside site into two championship golf resorts, a five start hotel, 950 time share properties and 450 houses.

The scheme was called in after Aberdeenshire Council rejected Trump’s planning application in November last year.

‘Having given careful consideration to the issues and arguments, I agree with the reporters' findings and reasoning, and with their recommendation that outline planning permission should be granted, subject to the satisfactory prior conclusion of necessary legal agreements,’ said John Swinney, the Scottish Executive’s cabinet secretary for finance and sustainable growth.

‘The reporters found there was significant economic and social benefit to be gained from this project, which has been a major consideration in my decision to grant outline planning permission.’
