The affair blew up into a political storm, with Alex Salmond, Scotland’s first minister, being attacked by the opposition over his role.

The inquiry will begin on June 10. Speaking from New York yesterday, Mr Trump said: 'I am confident I will be able to demonstrate my passion for this site, on which we want to create a world-class development that works in harmony with the natural environment.'
