Business leaders in London’s West End will come together today at a summit on green and sustainable issues.

The business improvement district NWEC is this afternoon hosting a Retail Business Environment Summit in a bid to raise awareness of Green and sustainable issues.

The summit’s speakers will include Leader of Westminster City Council Sir Simon Milton, Ian Henderson, chairman New West End Company, Sir Stuart Hampson, chairman of the John Lewis Partnership and Alan Duncan MP, shadow secretary of state for trade, industry and energy.

Hampson will speak about John Lewis’ plan for all its developments to become green from refurbishments to new stores.

He will launch a new framework to work across the design, planning, construction and the use of new and refurbished stores.

The partnership has also vowed the whole business will work from 100% renewable energy.

Hampson said: ‘There is a responsibility on all retailers to ensure that we operate in a sustainable manner. We are this week launching the partnership’s framework for delivering sustainable buildings – not a vision for what we might achieve in the future but a practical guide to what we intend to do now.’

The New West End Company hosted the event to discuss how to make London’s West End a model of best practice in environmental sustainability.
