Westfield got the go ahead for the redevelopment of its Centrepoint, Imperial Arcade and Skygarden properties in Sydney.

The approval is the second and final stage of the development application process and includes the design from John Wardle Architects.

The A$600m (£257.7m) project will be in line with Westfield’s recent project in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

The scheme will include the reformatting of the existing shopping centres into an integrated retail area. On top will sit a 27-storey 645,840 sq ft office tower.

Westfield will start on site in the second half of 2008, and the development will be staged to maximise trading periods for retailers and minimise disruption.

Colliers International and DTZ have been appointed as the commercial leasing agents.
