The latest addition to the honours board is Richard Bourne, managing director of Martin’s Properties, who set out to run the Land’s End to John O’Groats virtual challenge at the start of the year for mental health charity The Lucy Rayner Foundation, with a view to completing the 1,087-mile run by year’s end.

Impressively, he completed the distance 42 days ahead of time on 19 November. Over the last 11 months or so, Bourne averaged 5.4km per day, 37.8km per week and 164.25km per month. He completed 51 runs over 10km, his longest run was 15.7km and he suffered two injuries.

“The pandemic and various lockdowns have affected and continue to affect people both physically and mentally; therefore mental health support is needed more than ever,” said Bourne.

“It has also been an incredibly difficult period for the NHS and charities. I chose The Lucy Rayner Foundation, which is a small charity where funds go directly to supporting those in need. They offer counselling services to anyone, with no waiting list and guaranteed help within 48 hours.”
