Westfield Stratford shopping centre opened its doors and welcomed more than 150,000 shoppers on its first day of trading. The 1.9m sq ft centre only reached practical completion an hour before opening.
To coincide with the opening, Westfield and its JV partners APG and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board signed a £500m debt package deal with German bank Eurohypo, HSBC and Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Banking .
Speaking at the launch, Frank Lowy, chairman and co-founder of Westfield, told Property Week: “Retail is here to stay and people love to shop.”
