Unite protesters accidentally set up a picket line at Savills’ head office

Savills picket line

Last week, Property Week met with the top team at Savills, visiting the firm’s head office close to Oxford Circus in central London. Unfortunately for Savills, the company was simultaneously targeted by a determined protest group from union Unite, keen to lend visible support to striking dockers at the Suffolk port of Felixstowe.

It was an awkward coincidence for the property firm, given that few companies would willingly invite journalists to visit just in time to witness a picket line.

What exactly had Savills done to anger workers at Felixstowe? Nobody seemed to know. A Savills representative gamely ventured out for a chat to find out what the issue might be.

After a very civilised conversation, Savills called Unite to discuss things further, and following that the now red-faced protestors quietly furled their banners and shuffled off, apologetically. It seemed to be a case of united we stand… in the wrong place.

Who knows where they were supposed to be? Funnily enough, Unite did not respond to Property Week’s request for comment.
