How did you join the property industry?

My move into the industry started at Amazon, where I was responsible for developing electric vehicle offsite van storage solutions across the UK and Ireland. I was involved in various property and facilities management-related activities in previous roles.

What does your job entail now?

Infinium Logistics specialises in asset management and energy transition. As senior development manager, I oversee Infinium’s sites from early acquisition through to planning, tender and ultimately construction.

What do you like most about the property industry?

I value the variety and tangible impact of the work. Getting out on site and witnessing projects evolve from plans to physical structures is both exciting and professionally enriching.

And what do you dislike most about it?

There are still a few too many ‘funny looks’ when a woman arrives on a construction site.

What barriers or challenges have you overcome?

Like many, I’ve navigated the challenges of balancing a demanding full-time role with raising a young family, especially homeschooling during lockdown while my role at the time went into overdrive. As a newcomer in a tough male-dominated industry, earning the respect of my team, consultants and peers was a significant hurdle. However, these experiences have been incredibly empowering. They’ve not only strengthened my resolve but deepened my understanding of teamwork and leadership in the face of adversity. It’s these challenges that have shaped me into the professional I am today.

What are you most proud of in your career?

Proving that treating people with respect, communicating effectively and teamwork really do result in great outcomes. I am proud to be known as firm but fair.

What is your biggest mistake or regret?

I regret feeling I needed the approval of others to be able to advance in my career. A healthy dose of self-reflection and a few coaching sessions have helped erase unnecessary self-doubt.

What advice would you give someone starting a career in the property industry?

The industry is varied, so do your research first. Try to gain a wide range of experience and find the best fit for your skills and abilities.

Whom do you most admire in the sector?

I have admiration for a great number of people in the property sector, mainly those who build businesses from nothing through sheer talent, hard work and humility. When I was working as a contracting project manager a few years ago at a facilities management firm, I was mentored by a fabulous director of the firm. The knowledge and experience she willingly passed on have shaped my principles and work ethic ever since.

What TV series do you like?

My current favourite is Yellowstone. Over Christmas 2023, my husband and I completely binge-watched it. The series drew us in not only with its gripping storylines but with the breathtaking Montana ‘big sky country’ scenery. My guilty pleasure though is Star Trek, especially Voyager (Captain Janeway… what a woman!) – there’s nothing a Tricorder can’t fix.

What is your favourite album?

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette (below). It’s a reminder of my teens and great to sing along to.

What is your favourite travel destination and why?

Montana is at the top of my bucket list. The stunning landscapes in Yellowstone left a lasting impression. As a keen horsewoman, the idea of exploring Montana’s vast landscapes on horseback is incredibly appealing.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

The ability to be in several different places at any one time: on a Teams call, watching my twins play rugby at school, housework and grabbing a bit of ‘me time’ by riding my horse through the Worcestershire countryside.
