Barking battle won: City selected ahead of Amazon

Barking Power Station

The City of London Corporation has been chosen ahead of Amazon to buy power station site in east London for around £125m.

The corporation has been chosen as preferred bidder and is in advanced negotiations with vendor Barking Power to acquire the 42-acre site, which it intends to use for its consolidated food markets.

It beat off stiff competition from online retail giant Amazon, which it went head to head with last month for the site, marketed by Gerald Eve.
