If you’re looking for an active day out with clients and colleagues (and a reason to validate that second portion of streaky bacon), look no further than The World’s Biggest Property Bike Ride. This is my first time participating in the ride, and after completing some serious mileage, I’m looking forward to making it a personal best.

Leading up the event I’ve trie to get on the road at least once a week, usually through the Surrey Hills, which are a challenge but make for a beautiful ride. This is mainly on the weekends, which means I can make training that bit easier by doing it with friends, and it makes for a perfect excuse to catch up while burning some calories to enjoy a large lunch together afterwards! I also try to hit a few SPIN classes throughout the week and there are some great online training programs too. If you can hop on a bike at the gym after work, that helps build strength for the hills, and can provide a nice variety with the training - although nothing beats ‘miles in the legs’ and getting out in the saddle.

Last week I completed the CBRE EMEA Charity Bike Ride, covering 700km over five days from Bilbao to Santiago de Compostella, and once I’ve recovered I’m hoping it will make the Surrey Hills look like a piece of cake!

While training for a bike ride as demanding as this one, it is essential to take care of your body regarding nutrition and hydration. During the day, I would suggest that you take some small snacks to have throughout the ride, for example, every 15-20 minutes have a jelly baby or a dried apricot or other forms of dried fruit alongside drinking a lot of water to stay hydrated.

Aside from my love of cycling, a key driver in my participation is that the ride is for a fantastic cause. Last year, CBRE raised an incredible £46, 717 through the event for our charity partner Shelter and this year we are delighted to be raising funds for our new charity partner Action for Children. Over the next two years, CBRE will be working with Action for Children to support more than 700 children in the care system by helping to build a safe and loving environment within their foster homes.
